Meet The Messengers!
Bruce Boyes - Lead & Guitar
Music has played a part in Bruce’s life for many years. During his teen years the guitar became a friend and has stayed with him since then. He has sung in numerous gospel choirs and cantatas.
When he and his wife Joy moved to Red Deer, he appreciated the opportunity to sing for a few years with the Parkland men’s choir. He also enjoys singing oldies songs in senior’s retirement communities. It has been a learning experience for him changing from singing tenor to singing lead for the Messengers.
Bruce and Joy have 4 daughters who are all musical and have blessed them with 12 grandchildren.
Dennis Burk - Baritone & Keyboard
Dennis has sung since he can remember, from choirs, singing Christmas Trees, and dramas. After a couple of years of piano lessons, he started playing publicly at the age of 14, for weddings, funerals, church, and after retirement, for community dramas. As a young adult, he learned some basic music theory from a book. Bible College expanded his knowledge and practice of music through traveling choirs.
His faith has brought him through many tough times, but he always came through with a smile, and perhaps a joke..
Dennis has an extremely gifted wife, Brenda, four grown children, and two very tall and handsome grandsons, the oldest in university.
Jim Goodwin - Bass
Jim loves to sing – from the very first time he auditioned for a Bible College Choir, the bass clef drew him in like a magnet!
In the (many) ensuing years, he has sung in church and community choirs as well as in mixed and male quartets. Although he doesn’t play any instrument for the Messengers, he enjoys playing his guitar and pounding out the odd piano piece for family and friends.
Jim and his wife, Dawna, live in Red Deer and attend Deer Park Alliance Church. They have a largish grown family of four married children and eleven grandchildren.
Gord Diks - Bass Guitar
Music has always been an important part of Gordon’s life. Singing solos in church as a pre-teen, being involved in gospel quartets in his late teens and throughout his adult life has been very rewarding for him.
Christian music has always been a way for him to draw close to God. Gordon got his first guitar as a teenager and about four years ago he began playing bass guitar.
He has been married to Phyllis for over 50 years. They have three sons and daughters-in-law and eight grandchildren.
